Behind the Gram: @sixstreetunder

As part of a new series for this blog ‘Behind the Gram’, I’m going to be highlighting my favourite Instagram feeds that provide great photographic content. Ranging from street photography down to portraiture and lifestyle, I hope to shine a light on users that I feel are essential for all Instagram feeds.

London and Cambridge are two of the UK’s most photographed cities. With a whole host of historic and touristic things to see and do, they’re often the subject of countless tourist cameras. Under the lens of @sixstreetunder, however, the subjects are the local people and local spots thanks to his strong knowledge of his areas for lighting, shading and interesting subject.

Street photography is a great way to get a glimpse into the lives of people in an area. When done right, it captures honesty and pays respect to it’s surroundings. @sixstreetunder manages to capture some dramatic scenes in his frames, often leaving you having questions about the scene, something which all art strives to do.

The greatest use for me that makes @sixstreetunder’s feed so interesting is his use of shadows and colour, and how he can turn what would otherwise be a regular frame into something with much more depth, drama and story.

Below are eight of my favourite photographs from his feed, which I feel give a great first introduction into his great work!
