A couple of months ago I had the privilege of doing a photoshoot with fellow Northamptonian, Dizmack, as part of a shoot for my brand – Hometown Projects. Dizmack is a high-calibre MC who fuses his knowledge and passion for Chinese medicine with his life story, which all makes for incredible storytelling in his music.
We took a long walk around his old neighbourhood of Northampton – Spring Boroughs – where he retold stories of his past.
Feeling as open to discuss in person as he is in his music, Dizmack spoke in depth about the trails and tribulations of growing up in one of Northampton’s well known estates.
From run-ins with the police, to making his money, it was no-holds-barred in the stories. It was clear to see that Spring Boroughs – or Jungle, as it’s known to him – is a place that holds a lot of importance to him, and to the overall story that he has to share with the world.
From dealing with a diagnosis which triggered his desire to learn more about the body and how we heal it, Dizmack was inspired into his upcoming project ‘357’. 357, he told me, is a formula used in Chinese medicine to calm the heart and settle the mind.
He’s an enigma – in the greatest sense of the word. He’s one step ahead of the curve, constantly chomping at the bit to get things done, refusing to comply with social constructs. It isn’t everyday you hear about a guy who is both a Chinese medicine practitioner and a musician, but Dizmack takes it all in his stride, and he’s all the better for it.
